1. Relationship between Softening Cycle Flow Setting and Softening Flow K-value Setting

Softening Cycle Flow Setting and Softening Flow K-value Setting are conceptually unrelated, and their application scenarios and calculation logic are completely different. The "K" in the softening cycle flow rate setting is the exchange coefficient. The core of the softening cycle flow rate setting is to calculate the amount of water produced during the cycle, which is expressed as Q=VR × K ÷ YD. Among them, Q represents the amount of water produced during the cycle, that is, the amount of water that the resin can process between two regenerations; VR is the volume of resin, reflecting the core processing capability of soft water equipment; K is the exchange coefficient, with a value range of 400-1000. The specific value needs to be adjusted according to the regeneration method (400-750 for downstream regeneration) and the inlet hardness (smaller value for high hardness); YD is the hardness of the inlet water of the exchanger, usually measured in milligrams equivalent per liter (meq/L). The cycle water production rate calculated by this formula, combined with the rated water output of the equipment, can further determine the regeneration cycle (regeneration cycle=cycle water production rate ÷ rated water output). The key to this process lies in optimizing the regeneration frequency through parameters such as resin capacity and raw water hardness to ensure efficient operation of the equipment. The "K" in the setting of the softened flow rate K value is the calibration coefficient of the flowmeter. The "K" in the setting of the softened flow rate K value is essentially the core parameter of the flowmeter, used to convert the

raw signal output by the sensor (such as pulse, voltage, or frequency) into the actual flow rate value. Its unit is usually m ³/pulse or L/Hz, representing the flow rate corresponding to the unit signal output. For example, if the K value is 0.1 m ³/pulse, then each output pulse signal represents passing through 0.1 cubic meters of water. The adjustment of the K value needs to be based on a rigorous calibration process, taking into account multidimensional factors such as fluid characteristics (such as viscosity, density), pipeline parameters (such as diameter, material), and sensor response characteristics (such as linearity, repeatability). Incorrect K value setting can lead to flow measurement deviation, which in turn affects equipment control accuracy or process stability. The reason why there is no direct relationship between the two is that although both names are "K", their application scenarios are different: the exchange coefficient is used for calculating the operating parameters of soft water equipment, and the flowmeter calibration coefficient is used for flow signal conversion; The calculation logic is different: the exchange coefficient needs to be optimized for the regeneration cycle based on resin capacity and raw water hardness, and the flowmeter calibration coefficient needs to be calibrated to ensure measurement accuracy; The parameter ranges are different: the exchange coefficient is an empirical value (400-1000), and the flowmeter calibration coefficient is a specific calibration value (such as 0.1 m ³/pulse reed delay). Therefore, the two play independent roles in the soft water equipment and there is no direct setting relationship.
